The history of the NREMT

The year 1970 saw the dawn of a new era when on President Lyndon Johnson’s Committee suggestion an agency was set up which was actively responsible for training people to handle critical medical situations efficiently. The agency laid uniform nation-wide standards to train and evaluate interested people so that precious lives could be saved or suffering decreased by the administration of timely medical assistance. Thus NREMT (National Registry of Emergency medical Technicians) came into existence. Ever since its inception, NREMT has worked hard to evolve innovative methods to:

  • Improve medical care given to the victim of an accident prior to his getting professional help
  • To implement a system of educating, testing and certifying laymen to brave medical emergencies
  • Standardize the equipment to be carried by an ambulance
  • Establish national organizations of paramedic workforce such as EMT
  • Encourage continuation of education for adults
  • Maintain a record of personnel who were certified and re-certified

NREMT has worked at the grass-root level to transform the way medical assistance was made available through the vast number of people who passed through its hands. The staff members participate enthusiastically to bring more people within its folds, thereby enhancing the quality of emergency medical help.

The framework to the NREMT

At its humble beginning, the Task Force of NREMT laid out the broad frame work within which it would function, garner the necessary funds and take care of a plethora of such problems that beset an organization its nascent stage. Soon a curriculum was fashioned along teaching through multi-media and the examinations began to be conducted. There was no looking back. As years rolled by, greater heights were conquered, newer milestones set up by incorporating novel schemes to make NREMT more competent and encompassing. The course was gradually refined and increasingly aligned to the demand of the time.

Online EMT Practice test

During the first decade of this century, the Board of Directors adopted a Strategic Plan to act as the guiding light. Research programs pointed out how the organization could be made better, having far reaching impact on the safety on roads and emergency services. By 2005 the pencil-and-paper system of examination was replaced by an online one. Although much needs to be accomplished, NREMT has changed the way medical emergencies are viewed and handled today. Now you can take practice EMT Tests online in order to prepare for the NREMT. Take a practice test today at www.nremtpracticetest.org.
